15 Days 'til Christmas

Ok people, just a word of warning, this post is a bit of a question...but it could be interpreted as a rant.

It seems to me since the terrible tragidy of 9/11 some people are taking the greeting of "Happy Holidays" as an insult to Christianity and the Christmas season.

I have heard on several occations and in different situations someone snap back at a clerk or salesperson for saying "Happy Holidays". I have heard some people say "how dare ____ send me a card that says Happy Holidays. Don't they know they are taking Christ out of Christmas".

My question is; I wonder why when I was little and growing up it was perfectly acceptable for people to say Happy Holidays and even send out Christmas cards with Happy Holidays as the greeting.

I have always felt the meaning of Happy Holidays was to wish someone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I never felt less of a Christian for saying Happy Holidays. I know the reason for the season!

Finally, I also remember The Andy Williams Christmas Show was a popular Christmas special back when I was a child and this was one of his big Christmas hits on the show each year.  Isn't Donny Osmond a dream?!?

Thank you! I've also always interpreted Happy Holidays as Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It's also what my Christmas cards say!
